Construction of Silvan Dam, which will be Turkey's second largest irrigation dam, continues rapidly. According to information compiled by the AA correspondent from State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) data, Silvan, Pamuçay, Ambar, Kurucay, Başlar, Kıbrıs, Karacalar and Bulaklıdere dams are being built within the scope of the Silvan Project, which aims to build 8 dams and 23 irrigation facilities.

When these dams are completed, a capacity of 7 billion 500 million cubic meters of water storage will be created in the region. Silvan Dam, which is being built within the scope of the Silvan Project and has experienced a 2-year delay due to terrorist attacks, is of great importance for achieving irrigation goals in the region.

The dam, built for energy and irrigation purposes, will hold the title of the second largest irrigation investment after Atatürk Dam within the scope of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) with its 7.3 billion cubic meter reservoir volume.

With the completion of Silvan Dam, it is aimed to irrigate approximately 1 million 800 thousand decares of fertile land in central Diyarbakır, Silvan and Bismil districts. The project will also provide employment for 305 thousand people and contribute 1.91 billion liras annually to the economy.
